Berg wrapped his burnoose closer around his face, crouching behind a dune. He shaded his eye from any errant wind. The sandstorm was a small one, being only on the edge of the Waste, but he still cursed himself for forgetting the Waste's sudden changes. He'd been chasing around in the north with those juna too long.
The shriek grew less, and he breathed easier. He didn't have a shelter for long-time protection against such storms. The wind suddenly dropped, as is usual with storms of that type, and he loosened his burnoose, shaking sand off it as he uncapped his canteen.

For days after leaving Aarna's safe shelter Rein wandered the forest trying to find her bearings. Aarna told her to find her way to Taliss, but she could not tell her how to reach there. somehow she had got lost and had taken shelter on a cart, hiding behind the ladden baskets whilst she slept.
It was when she woke that she realised she was in a waste, hot and disoriented she jumped off the cart. Now alone in the sand that surrounded her she shaded her eyes with the ribbon which had been tied around her waste only a moment ago. She began to walk, but soon any bearings that she had had were lost, she sank into the sand under her praying for any sign of relief from the heat.

Bergron drank from his canteen, then recapped it, careful to twist it tightly, as to not lose any presious liquid. He got up from his position and continued his trek, over the dune, towards the south. He had taken three steps, then his foot caught in something soft. Looking down, he saw nothing, but his eyes, used so long to the desert and its ways, detected something strange.
Dropping awkwardly to his knees, he brushed away the sand to reveal a human female. A young human female.
