 The Three Races (playable species)
« Thread Started on Sept 21, 2007, 4:25am »

The Realms of Light and Shadow is an online, interactive role playing forum. In this forum, members are allowed to join one of the three races (Juna, Raihu, or Human) and select an occupation group (Reglious, Magical, Fighter) and choose a class.
After they have done so and their profile has been approved, they may wander out into the mortal realms, where they interact and post with others and go on campaign-wide quests created by the admin.

There are other races (not available to RP on this site). To learn more about them, scroll down past the Three Races info.

-------------::Juna::-------------

Reference Images
[ Image | Image 2 | Image 3 ]

Image 3
This Juna is a full-grown male. As you can see, he has long, powerful legs built for sprinting, three tails (the pride and joy of any Juna), long ears, and tactile hands. The tattoo on his upper left arm is the mark of his clan.

Coloring: Usually a reddish color with a light belly and black legs and ears.

Build: Juna are very agile and quick, they use their tails for extra balance. They have long legs built for very fast sprints.(speed over endurance)

Clothing: Juna usually wear kilts and some form of shoulder armor or covering.

Weapons of Choice: Juna are known for their skill with their special longbow. Also use short swords and knives.

Armor: Juna wear lighter and less armor then Humans. They prefer chain mail and leather armor. They often wear long flowing cloaks. Juna don't often use shields, as they prefer to be able to move swiftly and easily. When they do use heavy armor, they use plate armor over top of a bit of chain mail, but their arms and legs are left bare for sake of movement, except for armor guards on their lower legs and arms. They like colors such as golds, greens, and browns.

Cultures/Subspecies
Kahl -
The Juna of the far north, mostly in the northern mountain ranges, the Icefall Barrens, and Ardor, with thicker, grey and brindled to black, fur and curling horns on their head (like rams)

Elvar -
The lowland Juna, with brown-green tinged fur. They have longer claws and bigger ears. They dwell mainly in Ellesmere forest.

Valdar -
The forest Juna, which are the common type with red fur. They live mainly in the Mistwind and Siral Ranges, as well as a few in Ellesmere.

Other facts of note:

  • Juna Warriors are called Junai-ken
  • They live in close-knit clans
  • The clans are usually led by a female warrior, with the title of Matriarch
  • Their usual disposition is keen-minded and clever. They love to laugh and joke, but can be serious when needed
  • Juna are omnivores, and they love to have huge feasts for celebrations. Their cooking is well known for its varieties.
  • Juna younglings are called kits
  • They love to sing and dance

 Raihu

-------------::Raihu::-------------

Reference Images
[ Image 1 | Image 2 | Image 3 | Image 4] ]

Height: 6-7 Feet

Coloring: Sandy or desert tones, usually dark red or brown markings over a lighter colored skin.

Build: Powerful rather than lean, their legs are very strong and they can run steadily for a long time.(endurance over speed) They lean more forward as they run, using their tail for balance.

Appearance: Pebbled, leathery skin, warm-blooded (though they dislike the cold), with webbed feet for walking across sand. Their horns are hollow, filled with different chambers-that combined with a double set of nostrils allows them to make a wide range of hoots, whistles and tones. This means that their language is based on whistles, hoots, and singing.

Armor: Raihu wear armor, usually plated, on their chests and shoulders, legs and tails. Their armor often is made of bronze and iron. Sometimes chain mail is used, though a Raihu belief is that if you get the enemy with your pole arm before he reaches you, you won't need armor. They bear bright colors such as red, yellow and orange.

Weapons of Choice: Prefer pole arms (spears, glaives, etc.) and short blades.

Clothing: A tunic-like outfit that protects from the sand and wind, as well as a veil/burnoose that can be put around the snout and face to keep out sand and wind.

Protocol: The proper way of greeting between regular Raihu is usually to bow their heads slightly in recognition and put their right hand in front of them as they nod their head, palm out as a gesture of greeting, or shake hands if they are more aquainted. To greet a Rahma, the nod would be deeper, bringing their chin almost to their chest(but not touching, that would be too deep, could be considered an insult) and touching the middle of their forehead with their right fingers.

Cultures/Subspecies
Joor -
Mountain dwellers of the ranges near the Waste, mainly the Kaeldor Spine. Shorter and stockier, with darker brown and red skin, blunt tails, and a crown of shorter horns around their head.

Kahjo -
Roamers of the vast Waste, living more in the southern and coastal regions, sometimes even in the forests. Tall and lanky, with curling horns of reddish tones, and triple nostrils. Masters of song and language.

Raishiin -
The ‘common race,’ with two large horns and smaller cheek horns of blue and purple, with sand to brown toned skin. They live mainly in the Waste itself, roaming the vast desert.

Other facts of note:

  • The females have an extra point on their nose
  • Royal-blooded, or Rahma, have extra points on their main horns
  • Their horns are dark blue(male) or purple(female)at birth, and are very short. As they age their horns grow longer and lighter
  • They are very warrior-like
  • Raihu are nomadic, they place their camps in groups of sandstone pillars, with a well in the center
  • Raihu is singular and plural
  • They are omnivores, though they do have a higher preference for meat. This means they have sharp teeth, but with back molars for grinding.
  • Raihu are born in eggs, in clutches of up to five.

A note on Water Rights:

At the end of every season the Raihu tribes meet at Landu'serrai, a vast valley with sandstone pillars scattered around the edge, set near the center of the kingdom. There they meet to exchange news, trade, and speak with other tribes. All the chieftains hold a meeting with the High Saru, the king of the Raihu. They determine the status and needs of each clan and from there decide where each clan with move to and make their new sunaii, or village. Those who have a low standing get the worst sunaii, while those who are highly favored will get the best one.

The meeting is called the Kresau Meet, in honor of Kresau Windspear, who formed the lasting truce between the tribes long ago.

 Humans

------------::Humans::-------------

Coloring: The skin color of humans can vary. Those of the far northern moors have an olive-tinge to them, and those of the south are darker.

Heights: 5-6 1/2 feet

Build: The human build greatly varies. Though they are good for sprinting short distances, they don't exactly make good long runners. Their strength can vary, as well as their size/weight.

Clothing: Once again this depends on location. Being a race that is spread out over large areas, their clothing differs from place to place, and is often affected by the climate that they live in.

Weapons of Choice: Weapons can vary greatly, though a lot of long swords and spears are used. Short and composite bows, as well as the javelin are often found among humans.

Armor: Humans can be seen with shields bearing symbols of their various houses and lords, tall helms and bright chain mail. A lot of steel and iron is used. They use colors such as blues and silvers.

Cultures/Subspecies
Aldien -
Originate from the central regions, and have fair skin, hair, and light-colored eyes.

Runhar -
Originate from the northern moors and high mountains. Tall, with strong, almost aquiline features, dark eyes and skin with olive tones.

Jhi -
Originate from the east, sometimes bordering on the short side with dark skin, hair, and almond shaped eyes.
