A well-written profile is essential when role-playing. If a profile does not have enough detail, a character’s traits and abilities are undecided and vague, making role-playing difficult. Here is a quick overview of the entire profile-creation process.
Please read this topic before proceeding to create a character profile.
Profile Formats: [ Standard | Advanced ] Your profile should go here: [Profile Application Board]
The following is our Standard Profile Format: Name: ((Name of your character)) Gender: ((Male or Female only.)) Age: Race: ((Juna, Human, or Raihu)) Culture: ((What's your character's subspecies? Class/Sub-class: ((Will you be of the Religious, Fighter, or Magical Class? What sub-class will you be?)) Element: ((Mages only)) Patron Deity: ((Which God/Goddess does your character follow/devote him/herself to?))
Appearance: ((What your character looks like, what they wear, etc.))
Weapons/Possessions: ((Keep it realistic please))
Personality:((How your character behaves, thinks, reacts, etc. What is his/her attitude toward life?))
Weakness/Strength: ((To make your character more interesting, give him/her a weakness and a strength))
History/Background: ((Your character's past, how he/she is the way they are))
Relations: ((Do you have any relations to any other characters? Be sure to ask before noting them here.))
Other: ((Miscellaneous information only. Omit if unnecessary))
General Your profile will be the official online reference of your character. Please be as descriptive and concise as possible, and use your best grammar. Be sure to read all informational topics relating to rules, class, deities, etc. These topics are located in the [Realms for Dummies] and [Hall of Scrolls] boards.
If you have any questions, please feel free to drop an inquiry [here].
As your profile is an informational topic, please refrain from adding comments and/or smilies. The only place that is acceptable for these is at the end of your profile, where you may put a little phrase or so explaining if you are unsure about something, or commenting on whatever else you have to comment about.
Questions are allowed in your profile; staff members will reply to them. Please be sure to mark these in parentheses or brackets, and edit them out later.
Mary-Sues Mary-Sues "have what are seen as exaggerated and annoying (and sometimes impossible) levels of superiority, especially in comparison to either the other characters, real people who are in the same fields or situations, or both." (Wikipedia). [Click for Article]
Please do not make your character a Mary-Sue; it is impossible to be perfect. Although most veteran members may appear to have characters that reflect this, they are not without their weaknesses. Weaknesses are a requirement, and any, even staff members, may be admonished if they overstep their abilities.
Name Naming is often considered one of the most difficult aspects of creating a character. Here are a few tips regarding character naming and the types of names that are used:Generic, Conventional Names Conventional names are by far the easiest method of naming. A conventional name would be something like ‘John’ or ‘Mary.’ These are names you will find in everyday life. Although they are not the most creative, they suffice to fill the purpose of a name.
Non-Conventional Names Non-conventional names can be split into many groups.
These can be created by: Spelling things backwards (Ex: Artul [word: Lutra]) Combining random syllables (Ex: Rhuvien [roo-vee-en]) Changing the appearance of letters and sounds (Ex: Rybekkah [name: Rebecca]) Using a word from another language (Ex: Ryuu [Japanese – dragon]) Combining two or more words together (Ex: Silverwing [silver + wing]) Using nouns (Ex: Smith [def: a person who works metal]) Using two or more of the above (Ex: Kamerron [name: Cameron – crooked nose]) There are other ways to create non-conventional names; these are but a few of the many methods.
Note Japanese-style names, although popular, have been becoming increasingly unoriginal. Please refrain from using such names; they limit the originality of both the character and the name.
Gender There should be no difficulty in selecting a gender. Male or Female only, however, there are no restrictions on your character’s appearance. You are free to make your character as androgynous as you wish.
Age Age should not be a difficult choice. Ages on this site normally tend to fall between 15-25, but you are not restricted to those confines. Simply keep the age realistic.
Race There are three playable races for members. These are the Raihu, Juna,, and Humans.
Quick Overview of the Races Juna - A fox-like, humanoid race. Raihu - A warm-blooded, saurian-type race. Humans - Homo Sapiens [sapiens]
Further reading regarding the Races can be found in [Information on the Three Races].
Choosing a Race Choosing a race will affect how your character behaves in the Realms. Which ever race appeals to you the most, and will be one with which you will be comfortable with role-playing should be the two factors that judge which race you wish your character to be. You are not restricted to one character, so if you find interest and appeal in more than one race, feel free to make multiple characters.
Note on RacesJuna: Juna live in the north. They will not be comfortable in the Waste. Role-playing a Juna will mean that you will be affected by certain aspects of the Realms climate. Juna cannot wear pants because of their tails, but modified leggings (affectionately dubbed ‘Rothgar pants) may be worn.
Raihu: Raihu are dwellers of the Waste. They will not be comfortable in cold northern regions, and will not be able to sit on normal chairs because of their body structure. Role-playing as a Raihu will mean you will be affected by certain aspects of the Realms climate, as well as the other cultures.
Humans: Humans are adaptable in every region, but if you originate in the east, it is very likely you will not be comfortable in the north, and vice-versa. As well as being the most versatile, Humans are also susceptible to the more outside elements than a Raihu or Juna would be. In short, take aspects of culture, anatomy, and etc. into consideration when role-playing with a specific race.
Culture/Subspecies Each of the three races have separate cultures/subspecies. Subspecies are determined by physical traits as well as regions of origin. Selecting a culture will further determine your character’s appearance and behavior. Again, this is a choice of comfort and appeal.
Quick Overview of Subspieces Juna: Kahl – the Juna of the far north, with thicker fur and curling horns on their head (like rams) Elvar – the lowland Juna, with brown-green tinged fur. They have longer claws and bigger ears. Valdar – the forest Juna, which are the common type with red fur
Raihu: Joor – Mountain dwellers. Shorter and stockier, with darker brown and red skin, blunt tails, and a crown of shorter horns around their head. Kahjo – Roamers of the southern regions. Tall and lanky, with curling horns of reddish tones, and triple nostrils. Raishiin – The ‘common race,’ with two large horns and smaller cheek horns of blue and purple, with sand to brown toned skin.
Humans: Runhar – The moors and high mountain dwellers. Tall, with strong, almost aquiline features, and dark eyes and skin darkened by olive tones. Jhi - The eastern subspecies, sometimes bordering on the short side, with dark skin, dark hair, and almond shaped eyes. Aldien - The subspecies in the central area, with light toned skin, fair features and hair.
Class and Subclass There are three main classes, each with various subclasses that specialize in a particular field of combat or study.
Classes The classes are as follows:
Subclasses Subclasses are specialized fields of the three general classes. Subclasses often serve as the occupation of a character, and the two terms are usually interchangeable. Descriptions of these subclasses can be found in the class information topics.
Subclasses List: FightingMercenary Warrior (Int.) Berserker (Adv.) Archer Ranger Hunter (Int.) Thief Rogue Assassin (Adv.) Corsair Privateer (Adv.) Knight Guardian (Int.) Tamer (Adv.) MagicMage Shaman (Int.) Druid (Int.) Summoner (Int.) Bard Healer Scholar Seer Oracle (Adv.) Darkcaller Necromancer (Adv.) Illusionist (Int.) Alchemist (Special Permission Only; Adv.) Mana Seal (Special Permission Only; Adv.) ReligiousAcolyte Priest(ess) Preacher (Int.) Bishop (Int.) Apostle (Adv.) Paladin Cleric Monk Scribe Heretic Abaddon (Dark General only; Adv.) Spirit Seal (Special Permission Only; Adv.) Light Seal Magic Knight (Int.) *Int. - Refers to levels 3-4. *Adv. - Refers to levels 5-6.
Element Magical characters require elements. There are four basic elements: Fire, Water, Air, and Earth. Dark is not a true element, as all Dark-users were once of a basic element. Dark also refers to shadow, not darkness as matter.
Patron Diety You are not required to have a patron deity, but cases in which a character does not have a patron god are rare.
The Gods are as follows: Thanas - Sun God Aelvir and Rianys - Moon Goddesses Oranius - God of Dreams The Grey One - God of Death Scyros - God of Chaos ((Note: All Scyros worshippers are evil.)) Lorraina - Goddess of Earth Faeros - God of Fire Tairie - Goddess of Air Obariun - God of Water Thakken - God of Trickery Tauron - God of War More information relating to the Realms Pantheon can be found http://threeraces.proboards62.com/index.cgi?board=hall&action=display&thread=1167782147&page=1#1180307897][here][/url].
Appearance Now that the basics have been chosen, you may begin to design your original character. Outright, the Appearance section should be one of the longest, most detailed areas of your profile. Your character’s appearance should cover their general appearance, hair/fur/skin, eye color, clothing, build, height, weight, and any unique traits.
Your appearance must have at least six sentences.
Clothing Your character must wear clothing. Please be realistic, as well as follow site rules regarding garb. Also, take anatomy into consideration. As aforementioned, Juna, because of their tails and leg structure, cannot wear pants, and must therefore wear a kilt or specialized ‘Rothgar pants.’
Feel free to accessorize your character as you wish. Remember, this is a medieval-era, fantasy role-play; t-shirts, jeans, and iPods do not exist.
Personal Traits Unless your character is a run-of-the-mill, generic villager, it is likely that s/he will have some kind of defining trait or another. Take into consideration genetics and hereditary traits, as well as the general coloring of your subrace.
Here is where you can define your eye, hair, skin, fur, etc. color, as well as elaborate on any bodily markings, scars, or tattoos your character may have.
Build Something relating to a body structure should be included in your profile. Is you character muscular? Short? Voluptuous? Body structure affects performance and appearance, and may affect how your character acts in a role-playing position.
Complexion Skin tone and facial features are effected by the race and culture you selected, though personalizing the face your character will use will make your character more interesting and original. Facial characteristics, like a crooked nose, a beard, or a frightening scar will define your character and give them a unique appearance. Please note, however, that 'X' scars like Himura Kenshin, and lightning bolts like Harry Potter, are Mary-Sue markings; don’t be cliché.
Plargarism Plagarism is absolutely disallowed. If a character exists on another site or in something else already copyrighted, you are not allowed to use it. Everyone must use their own imagination to create their characters. No matter how ‘cool’ or ‘awesome’ an existing character may seem, you have no right to steal and use that character as if it were yours. If you like an existing character, you may loosely model your character after him/her if you are desperate.
Weapons/Posessions Although not a requirement, it is recommended that your character wield a weapon of some type, even if they are but their hands and feet. Please consider the time frame the Realms exists in; there will be no guns, lightsabers, or other such weaponry.
Possessions are any other odds and ends your character may tote about with them, such as a book, or a pendant. Possessions are for either practical or sentimental uses, though the sentiments may only carry so far; your character is not going to haul around a boulder from his/her old home that s/he happened to be fond of perching on.
Weapon Types In all generality, there are three types of weapons:Long Range Projectiles Short Range/Close Combat Long range weapons include polearms such as lances and staves. Projectiles include weapons that may be thrown or shot, like bows and slings. Short range weapons include hand-held weapons, such as swords and axes.
Items such as knives and throwing axes may double as both projectiles and close-range weaponry.
Special Items Special items and weapons may be received from Gods or etc. as gifts and usually have abilities that normal weapons/items do not. Take these gifts into consideration, if you are lucky enough to receive one.
Blessed/Cursed Items Items and weapons may be either blessed or cursed. It is not uncommon for paladin to have blessed weapons for smiting evil. Please note that we will not be having cursed and blessed items everywhere; that would make them unoriginal and common.
Keeping the Realism Realism is a heavy factor in creating a good profile. Making your weapons too fancy will complicate things. Also, consider your race's weapon preferences. A Juna would most likely wield a bow, a Raihu would have a spear, and a human would have a sword, though they are not limited to those specific weapons.
Other Weapons, like crossbows, are not allowed, though they may seem to fit into the category of 'medieval weapons.' If you have a question regarding weaponry, add your question after the item in parentheses. This applies to any other inquiries you may have.
Personality Another crucial part of your character’s design is their personality. Please be as detailed as possible about this, even if your character is the run-of-the-mill generic villager. When you role-play, be sure to keep your character’s disposition in mind.
You must have at least four sentences in this section.
Weaknesses and Strengths All characters have faults, and not having faults would be a fault in itself. There is no such thing as a perfect being. A weakness can be as simple as being afraid of spiders, water, or chickens, and as complicated as standing on their hands with a fish balanced on their nose.
Strengths apply as well. Your character could be very speedy, or strong, or witty, giving them advantage over certain enemies or other characters.
You must have an equal number of weaknesses to strengths, although it does not apply vice-versa. You are welcome to have more weaknesses than strengths.
History/Background The history/background of a character is usually seen to be the most detailed and lengthy section of the profile, other than the appearance. This section will explain your character’s backstory and reveal why they are how they are currently. The older your character is, the longer his/her history is likely to be, even if the first fifty years of their life consisted of an unchanging schedule on a farm.
Please try to make this section at least eight sentences in length.
Other The Other section is for miscellaneous facts and other such whatnot that does not belong in any other part of the profile. If you have nothing to put here, omit the section and either 1) proof-read and spell-check your profile or 2) submit it to be approved.
